1952 L7 Re-build Project – This very special project was commissioned by Toronto “guitar whisperer” Stephen Candib. Stephen was fortunate enough to have acquired a number of NOS parts from Gibson’s old Kalamazoo factory, along with a 1952 L7P body. Previous owners had re-finished it (from sunburst to natural) and converted it to a double built-in pickup model. At some point the top was severely damaged. Stephen supplied the body, some Gibson NOS parts (completed Johnny Smith top, L-5 fingerboard, peghead faceplate, bridge base, and pickguard mounting hardware) as well as an original Johnny Smith pickup and various pieces of aftermarket hardware. The body was stripped, the damaged top was removed, the Johnny Smith top was installed in its place, and the entire body was rebound with L-5 style binding. A new neck was built for the L-5 fingerboard and peghead faceplate, and joined to the body. The entire guitar then received an antique natural nitrocellulose finish. The final result is this beautiful, great sounding and unique guitar.
Serial #5860223 CAMEO – this is the sixth CAMEO model built and it displays some noteworthy features – we see a return of the extended back heel cap (a feature not seen since the ARTIST CAMEO prototype was built), and the usual matching wood pickguard is replaced by an Abalone veneered pickguard fitted with two floating pickups and under-mounted controls – premium Sitka spruce and quilted maple in blueburst finish.
Serial #5890723 – this is a one of a kind custom order based on the 15” EP model – solid carved spruce top with laminated back and rim – features multiple binding throughout and large abalone block position markers – wine red finish.
Serial #5910723 – Standard Series Custom – 16” thin-body model featuring double pickups, abalone dot position markers and all nickel hardware – blueburst finish.
Serial #5930723 CAMEO – this is the seventh CAMEO model built and the first to include a built-in pickup – premium spruce top and quilted maple back and rim – cognac finish.
Serial #5981123 CAMEO – this is the eighth CAMEO model – 16″ body – premium spruce and quilted maple – natural finish.
